1985年沖縄県生まれの美術家・演奏家。2010年沖縄県立芸術大学絵画専攻卒業。平成29年度ポーラ美術振興財団在外研修生としてロンドンに滞在。即興表現の技法や思考術を社会との関わりに応用させた活動や、サウンドを素材としたインスタレーション表現やパフォーマンスなどをおこなう。即興演奏/実験音楽/サウンドアートなどの企画も行う。2018年から2020年まで沖縄県那覇市でオルタナティブスペース「Arts Tropical」を運営。
Syo Yoshihama was born in 1985, Okinawa, Japan. In 2010, Yoshihama graduated from Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, majoring in painting. His works explore the ways in which different levels of consciousness are able to capture different sounds. He incorporates the act of playing music into his art and music practice. He has also organized an art space “Arts Tropical” in Okinawa (2018-2020).
Fellowship with the Pola Art Foundation Overseas Study Program (UK / 2017-2018).

詩人、まど・みちお『コップ』のオマージュ作品。
コップは水を包み、世界がコップを包み、ただただ坐っている様子を書いた詩であるが、音でそのような状況をつくれないか試みた。
コップの上部に付けられたマイクは周囲の音を拾い、コップの底部に付けられた圧電素子はその音を出力する。ハウリング音を包み込んだコップは、周囲と、他のコップと関わり、そこに在る。
This artwork is an homage to the poem “Cup” by Michio Mado. The artist tried to re-create the images within the poem—the water filling the cup, the cup enveloping the water, the outside world surrounding the cup—with sound.
A microphone attached to the top of the cup picks up ambient sound, and a piezoelectric element attached to the bottom of the cup outputs the sound. A howling sound emanates from the cup, allowing it to interact with its surroundings and with the other cups.

空気の音ではなく、振動音を拾うことができるコンタクトマイク。
そのマイクを窓ガラスに貼り付けてフィールドレコーディングを行った。
展示室の窓に振動スピーカーを貼り付けて録音を再生し、風景を重ねてみる。
The artist made field recordings by attaching a microphone to a window pane in his home. However, instead of recording sounds (空気の音), the contact microphone picked up vibrations (振動音), creating a layered impression of the environment. The vibrating speaker attached to the window of the Chinretsukan gallery plays back this recording, overlaying it with the ambient noise of the Tokyo scenery visible from the window.
